First of all, I’d like to speak for the MAP board of directors and the community of MAP members to thank Gillian Coats and recognize her service to the MAP. We accept Gillian’s leave of absence with a mix of regret and well wishes - we'll all miss her sincere dedication and outstanding leadership to the MAP, but we look forward to seeing what's next!
Gillian, we're truly grateful – without you, the MAP wouldn't be as vibrant and active as it has been in the last few years. You’ve brought this community together, and we all appreciate you. We wish you the best in the coming months and can’t wait to welcome you back.
In the meantime (and always) there are several ways for MAP members and supporters to get and stay involved: Now more than ever, we'll be looking to you to help us get the word out about events, projects, and ideas that need support from the community. And use the website! You can share your work (in your profile) and your thoughts (in your blog and the message boards) at www.themap.org. Tell your friends to do the same, and ask local businesses to take a look at what we have going on.
The board is working on a fundraising strategy to support the MAP’s vision for the future so that we can better serve our members, both as a showcase for the creative community and as a resource to support media artists and professionals working here in WNC... that's YOU, and it's your contribution that will keep it going.
AND... come party with us and Black Mountain College Museum and Arts Center next Saturday night, November 7th, at Phil Mechanic Studios! Consider it a farewell party for Gillian, who is lending her vocals to the Asheville Symphony chorus before she comes back to DJ at the Flood.
See you there!
