Lucas Baumann at The MAP

Lucas Baumann was born and raised in northeastern Iowa. He moved to Asheville for love, for the mountains, and for shorter warmer winters. He holds a BA in Elementary Education and a BFA in Studio Art, with emphasis on Performance and Video.

In addition to performance and video his studies have included: construction, B&W photography, drawing, painting, printmaking (relief and etching), bookmaking, graphic design, poetry, puppetry, textiles, sculpture, and theater. He has been aggressive rollerblading since 1996, was a participant of a land-based Butoh-inspired workshop four years running (Inkboat Dance Co.), practices permaculture in his apartment yard and Ayurveda in his kitchen, and substitute teaches preschool through highschool.

His love of formal beauty, nature, and the human body is the basis of his work.
