We had a great time filming these enthusiastic kids who, for many, were traveling to DC for the first time. The indiegogo project we created to help pay for the costs of editing the documentary was fully funded last night! You can see more details of the trip and our daily updates for the parents who couldn't come to DC on the youtube chanel linked on this page.

Boulder Butoh Festival

Last month, the organizers of the Boulder Butoh Festival (http://boulderbutohfestival.com/) hired me to capture their performances. I was really glad to have the opportunity as I've had a little more than a passing interest in Butoh dance since first being exposed to it at the 2005 Asheville Fringe Festival (http://www.ashevillefringe.org/); so much so that long time friend and choreographer Julie Gillum (http://www.ashevillebutoh.com/) and I have started a documentary focusing on the evolution of Butoh Dance in America.

This was a great opportunity to meet some internationally known artists, shoot interviews and workshops, as well as other public Butoh performances that occurred outside the festival in the Boulder area. Up until this weekend, I had really only seen American artists from Asheville perform this form of dance.

Meeting and observing workshops by some of the master performers who were taught directly by the creators of this art form remains an indescribable honor. It's really exciting to have some footage in the can for what, until this past weekend, had only been a concept. I'm looking forward to seeing where this path takes us. There are several more screen captures like the one above on my image portfolio page.

It's been a while since I last exhibited publicly in Asheville, so when NC Stage asked if I'd like to put up some prints in their lobby for the close of their 2010/2011 season, I gratefuly agreed.

What: Five Large Prints, Photographs from California
When: May 10 through June 19
Where: 1 Stage Lane, NC Stage Lobby
Reception: June 3, 2011, 5:00 to 7:00 pm

This is my first large format show. There's only 5 prints but they're all 30x40 inches or larger. I hope you have time to drop into the NCStage Lobby sometime (it's open most weekday business hours) or come to the reception and join me in a glass of wine and the opening night of "The Glass Menagerie" after!

Looking forward to seeing you there.

PCN Inc. Proud new Micro-Power Producer

In February 2011, our first photo-voltaic solar array came online. This is a major milestone in our goal to become a 100% solar powered web host.

This first array is producing about 10KWhr/day, covering 1/3 of our total power needs. We still contribute to Appalachian Offsets the full amount to cover our carbon emissions from all our power needs, making Purplecat Networks Inc. the first carbon negative web hosting provider in NC!

We're working on finding a location for our second PV array to be installed later this year.

Thanks for supporting PCN Inc. and spread the word, Asheville has "Green" hosting options right here in town!

Love Asheville, Host Local.

To that end we've started the wheels turning toward becoming the first solar powered web-host in WNC by hiring Sundance Power Systems to install our first 2.4 kWh photolvoltaic array, scheduled to come online in late December 2010!

Recent upgrades at the data center leave your PCN Inc. hosted sites jacked in to the internet at Gigabit Speeds.

Although most traffic over the internet winds up being limited well below gigabit speeds, we decided to step ahead of the curve to ensure sites hosted with us could outperform just about any bandwidth around. So when our data center mentioned that redundant gigabit connectivity was available, we just decided to make it happen.
But to decide which city's going to win this big prise, they've got to show some support for the plan and hopefully convince google that fiber in their town wouldn't be good for just that town...
