Bio for Amelia Burns
Amelia Burns currently rides the waves of transitioning back to Asheville after four years in Boulder, Colorado. With a history of dancing with Julie Becton Gillum/Legacy Butoh and Asheville Contemporary Dance Theater, she's excited to return to the performance worlds of WNC and to experiment and collaborate with artists of all mediums here.
During the past nine years, butoh has been her primary path of body training and inspiration for performance offerings, and she is grateful for the opportunities to study with Julie BG, Diego PiƱon, Hiroko and Koichi Tamano, Katsura Kan, and others. She is also continuing her work with Nathan Montgomery and Syzygy Butoh in her present work as Assistant Director and Co-Producer of the Boulder Butoh Festival, www.boulderbutohfestival.com.
Amelia dances in and with the wilderness, the more-than-human worlds with whom we inhabit this landscape. She is currently researching and publishing an article about the interdependent natures of our human experiences of being embodied and embedded. She is also interested in using film as a medium to support bringing dance with landscapes to wider audiences.
